IHFA Holds Free Landlord Workshops In Blackfoot and Pocatello June 16 & 17

BLACKFOOT / POCATELLO - Area landlords participating in Idaho's Section 8 Rental Assistance Program are invited to attend one of two free workshops discussing legal and fair housing issues facing their industry. The Blackfoot workshop will be held June 16 from 2 - 4 p.m. at the Bingham County Courthouse, 501 N. Maple North. In Pocatello, the workshop will be held June 17 from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Marshall Library, 113 S. Garfield. Both workshops are sponsored by the Idaho Housing and Finance Association (IHFA).

Changes in the Section 8 Rental Assistance Program will be provided to landlords currently participating in the program. Information on legal issues affecting property owners will also be discussed. Other topics include local fair housing issues, tenant selection, eviction procedures and unit maintenance.

Scheduled speakers include IHFA staff, a local property manager and representatives from the Idaho Fair Housing Council and Idaho Legal Aid.

Workshop seating is limited and interested landlords are encouraged to reserve space by contacting IHFA's Blackfoot office at (208) 785-0324.

There have been significant changes in the Section 8 program that landlords need to know," said Rod Beck, IHFA executive director. Workshops are an efficient use of everyone's time and it's important for IHFA staff to personally talk with the local landlords and property owners that make this program possible."

IHFA administers Section 8 programs on behalf of HUD in areas of the state that do not have local housing authorities. Each month, IHFA, in partnership with HUD and participating landlords, provides affordable rental housing to more than 2,500 Idaho households.

IHFA is an independent public body, corporate and politic, providing funding for affordable housing opportunities in Idaho communities where they are most needed. IHFA must generate all revenue necessary to cover its operation costs. It does this by earning fees for work performed and uses no state funds or state employees. IHFA's main office is located at 565 West Myrtle in Boise, Idaho, with five branch offices throughout the state in Twin Falls, Blackfoot, Idaho Falls, Lewiston and Coeur d'Alene.
