10 New Affordable Apartments Dedicated Today at 10 AM by
Lewiston Mayor
LEWISTON - Clearwater Terrace, Lewiston's newest affordable
housing complex will be dedicated at 10 a.m. (Wed., May 6) at 710 20th
Street, according to Idaho Housing and Finance Association (IHFA)
officials.
Community Action Agency (CAA) of Lewiston built the 10-unit
development using federal funds administered by IHFA in conjunction
with a $36,444 grant from the City of Lewiston.
Clearwater Terrace has four two-bedroom townhouses and six
three-bedroom flats. It's the third small "scattered site"
development built in Lewiston by CAA. CAA is one of Idaho's federally
designated Community Housing Development Organizations (CHDO). They
used this HUD designation to access special HOME Program loan funds
set aside annually just for CHDOs.
Developments like Clearwater Terrace are very successful. They are
smaller, have less neighborhood impact and are easily accepted in most
communities, according to IHFA administrators.
"This is a unique development demonstrating the diversity of
CHDO funds in building small scattered site housing for limited-income
families," said Rod Beck, IHFA executive director. "We hope
to see more of these low impact developments in the future."
Rents are expected to be $365 for the two-bedroom townhouses and
$465 for the three bedroom flats. The development is owned and managed
by CAA.
"We were glad to play a part in developing Clearwater,"
said Mayor Nesset. "Lewiston, like other Idaho cities, needs
affordable, quality housing," said Mayor Nesset. "Our
community benefits when citizens have affordable housing choices.
"I have to stress the importance of partnerships," said
Carol Alexander, CAA Board Chairman. "IHFA and the City really
made these 10 units possible."
Nesset along with representatives from IHFA and CAA will dedicate
the development. An open house with tours of the apartments will
follow the dedication.
IHFA is a independent public body, corporate and politic, providing
funding for affordable housing opportunities in Idaho communities.
IHFA must generate all revenue necessary to cover its operation costs.
It does this by earning fees for work performed and uses no state
funds or state employees. IHFA's main office is located at 565 West
Myrtle in Boise, Idaho, with five branch offices throughout the state.
