Farmway Village Renovation Complete; Housing Authority to
Dedicate 112 New Units June 26
CALDWELL - On June
26, 112 newly renovated two bedroom apartments will be dedicated at
the Caldwell Housing Authority's (CHA) 80-acre Farmway Village
property, 22730 Farmway Road, in Caldwell at 3 p.m.
The
new apartmentsonce seasonal labor barrackshave been rehabilitated
exclusively for local low-income farm-working families. All units
received new roofs, flooring, kitchen cabinets and bath fixtures in
addition to new hot water heaters, insulation and electrical systems.
A sprinkler system was also installed to provide maintenance free lawn
areas for residents. Farmway's entire water system was also upgraded.
All apartments rented in just two months, according to David
Linden, CHA administrator, demonstrating the tremendous need for
low-income farm labor housing in the area. "We provide 248 total
affordable rental units here and we have the only farm labor housing
for miles. You can imagine how vital it was to complete these
apartments for families working here year-round," Linden said.
Funding for the rehab work came from several sources including the
Idaho Housing and Finance Association, the U.S. Department of
Agriculture-Rural Development, the Idaho Department of Commerce, the
Federal Home Loan Bank of Seattle, Idaho Power and Canyon County
Council on Aging.
CHA began making improvements to their Farmway Village property in
1992 with the additional of 136 two- to five-bedroom town homes.
Currently, 1,600 residents call Farmway Village home. These residents
provide farm labor in Nampa/Caldwell and Marsing.
Idaho Migrant Council provides daycare on-site to qualifying
Farmway families with small children. Basic health services and
referrals are also provided on-site by Terry Reilly representatives.
