IHFA to Administer $423,000 in Emergency Shelter Grants for Homeless Assistance

BOISE - The Idaho Housing and Finance Association will administer $423,000 in grant funds to aid Idaho's homeless support and prevention system. IHFA will distribute the Emergency Shelter Grant funds to 16 projects across the state through Dec. 31, 2004.

Emergency Shelter Grants provide funding for the operation and/or minor rehabilitation of emergency shelter facilities, supportive services to the homeless, and homeless prevention activities such as rental or utility assistance to help keep people in their existing homes.

During the next 18 months, Idaho's Emergency Shelter Grant will provide $82,483 for Supportive Services, $233,617 for Shelter Operations and Maintenance, and $85,750 for Homeless Prevention activities across the state.

Bonner County Homeless Task Force
Sandpoint

The Bonner County Homeless Task Force is expanding its program to provide additional beds designated for emergency shelter needs in the area.
 
St. Vincent de Paul
Coeur d'Alene

St. Vincent de Paul operates a men's shelter and a shelter for women with children. Its grant is for shelter operations and supportive services, which also includes Homeless Prevention funds for the region.
 
Alternatives to Violence of the Palouse
Pullman-Moscow
$20,000
Alternatives to Violence of the Palouse is a domestic violence shelter that serves areas of both Idaho and Washington state. Its award is designated for shelter operations and supportive services for Idaho clients who are victims of domestic violence.
 
YWCA of Lewiston
$34,355
The YWCA provides emergency shelter, supportive services and Homeless Prevention assistance in Region II (the North Idaho Panhandle Area).
 
McCauley Project
Nampa

This grant is for homeless prevention assistance.
 
Community Family Shelter (operated by Salvation Army)
Nampa

Community Family Shelter, operated by the Salvation Army of Nampa, provides emergency shelter and supportive services for homeless families in Region III (Southwest Idaho).
 
Valley Crisis Center
Nampa

Valley Crisis Center's award supports shelter operations and supportive services to victims of domestic violence, as well as some homeless prevention assistance for the region.
 
The Advocates
Hailey

The Advocates is a domestic violence project providing emergency shelter, supportive services and some homeless prevention assistance.
 
South Central Community Action Agency
Twin Falls

SCCAA received over $8,000 for the provision of supportive services to the homeless in the Twin Falls area, and $10,000 designated for homeless prevention assistance in the region.
 
Bannock Youth Foundation
Pocatello

BYF is a youth shelter. Its grant is for shelter operations and supportive services provided to the homeless and runaway youth of that area.
 
Aid For Friends
Pocatello

Aid For Friends operates an emergency night shelter and a day shelter. Its award will be used for shelter operations and supportive services.
 
South Eastern Idaho Community Action Agency
Pocatello
$10,548
SEICAA's award was designated entirely for homeless prevention assistance in Region V (Southeastern Idaho).
 
City of Refuge
Idaho Falls
$27,860
City of Refuge is a shelter serving the needs of homeless men. Its award is for shelter operations and supportive service activities.
 
C.L.U.B. Inc.
Idaho Falls
$39,705
C.L.U.B. is a shelter serving homeless persons with mental illnesses. Its award is for shelter operations, supportive services, and largely, homeless prevention. C.L.U.B. is the sole provider of homeless prevention assistance for Region VI (Eastern Idaho).
 
The Jesse Tree of Idaho

The Jesse Tree's award is strictly for homeless prevention in the area.
 
S.A.F.E. Center (operated by Salvation Army)

S.A.F.E., operated by the Salvation Army of Boise, provides assistance to homeless families. It received an award for shelter operations and supportive service activities.
