IHFA Receives More Than $1.3 Million for Housing for People With AIDS/HIV

BOISE - Idaho Housing and Finance Association, as program administrator, recently received $1,314,000 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to help fund a statewide program providing Housing Opportunities for Persons With AIDS/HIV (HOPWA).

Idaho was one of 12 states to receive funding, garnering the third-largest funding total, and IHFA was the only entity to receive funding on a statewide basis. All of the other grants were earmarked for single cities in each state.

With the grant, IHFA will add 50 long-term housing vouchers, and will be able to provide case management and health services for more than 200 individuals and over 20 families.

"IHFA is very pleased that Idaho is one of 12 states receiving HOPWA funds from HUD this year. We look forward to using these valuable funds to assist key service providers in securing permanent housing for their clients," said Julie Williams, vice president, Community Housing Services.

In the last three years, the program has accounted for 178 individuals receiving long-term housing, has provided needed services for 216 eligible people, and has provided both housing and services to 18 families with 29 children.

IHFA will distribute funding to seven HIV/AIDS service providers throughout the state:

  • North Idaho AIDS Coalition in Coeur d'Alene
  • North Central District Health Department in Lewiston
  • Boise City/Ada County Housing Authority in Boise
  • Family Practice Residency of Idaho in Boise
    (non-contracted service provider)
  • South Central District Health Department in Twin Falls
  • South Eastern Idaho District Health in Pocatello
  • District 7 Health Department in Idaho Falls
