IHFA Awarded More Than $2.8 Million to Meet Idaho's Special Housing Needs, Part of $1.4 Billion for Homeless Assistance Nationwide

BOISE - The Idaho Housing and Finance Association has been awarded a Continuum of Care grant of $2,821,001 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to support homeless programs in Idaho.

Idaho's award is part of $1.4 billion in homeless assistance that HUD committed nationwide to 4,400 service providers, estimated to benefit more than a quarter-million people.

"This grant allows IHFA to apply much-needed resources to individuals and communities throughout Idaho," said IHFA President and Executive Director Gerald Hunter. "We recognize that HUD considered budgetary constraints in this process, and we are grateful that the funding awards are reflective of our shared vision to provide for those citizens in greatest need."

IHFA's award includes $681,180 for a permanent housing project in conjunction with Southeastern Idaho Community Action Agency in Pocatello. The Shelter Plus Care program accounts for $195,048, linking rental assistance with supportive services and more effectively helping homeless individuals who are seriously mentally ill. Emergency Shelter Grants were awarded $517,264, primarily for homeless shelters and homeless assistance and prevention. In addition, Continuum grants fund supportive services including job training, health care, mental health counseling, substance abuse treatment, child care and living skills training to aid independent living efforts.
