IHFA Awarded More Than $2 Million to Meet Idaho's Special Housing Needs, Part of $1.3 Billion for Homeless Assistance Nationwide
Boise The Idaho Housing and Finance Association has been awarded a Continuum of Care grant of $2,016,860 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to support homeless programs in Idaho.
Idaho's award is part of $1.33 billion in homeless assistance that HUD committed nationwide to 4,400 service providers, estimated to benefit more than a quarter-million people.
"IHFA is pleased and gratified that HUD has approved funding to support communities and ensure that services and shelter will continue to be available," said IHFA President and Executive Director Gerald Hunter. "The funding awards reflect a shared vision to provide for all Idaho citizens - especially those in greatest need."
IHFA's award includes the Supportive Housing Program (SHP) and the Shelter Plus Care (SPC) program. SHP promotes supportive housing and services by helping homeless persons transition from homelessness to living as independently as possible. SHP accounts for $1,616,840 of the total award. SPC, which accounts for $400,020, links rental assistance with supportive services and more effectively helps homeless individuals who are seriously mentally ill. In addition, Continuum grants fund supportive services including job training, health care, mental health counseling, substance abuse treatment, child care and living skills training to aid independent living efforts.
