Free Landlord/Tenant Law Workshop in Coeur d'Alene

(Coeur d'Alene) Property owners, managers, landlords and those involved in real estate in North Idaho are encouraged to attend a free workshop hosted by Idaho Housing and Finance Association on landlord/tenant law and Fair Housing topics. The workshop is scheduled for Wednesday, June 7, 2006, at the Kootenai Hospital Health Resource Center, Fox Room 4, at 2003 Lincoln Way.

"Alan Wasserman, an attorney with Idaho Legal Aid, will discuss Idaho landlord/tenant law and also cover some Fair Housing topics," said IHFA Coeur d'Alene Branch Office Supervisor Mary Jo Braaten. "We encourage landlords, REALTORS®, home sellers, lenders, and bankers in the area to attend."

The workshop is scheduled from 9:30 a.m. until noon. Seating is limited, and those planning to attend must call to reserve space by contacting IHFA's Coeur d'Alene branch office at (208) 667-3380 or toll-free 1-866-621-2994.

IHFA administers Section 8 Rental Assistance on behalf of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) in 34 of Idaho's 44 counties. In 2005, IHFA administered just over $6.1 million in Housing Assistance Payments to participating North Idaho landlords. As a result, 1,437 low-income households through tenant-based and project-based programs have benefited from this investment.

To be eligible for rental assistance, households must apply to the waiting list and qualify under HUD income limits. If eligible, the household would pay approximately 30 percent of their adjusted gross monthly income for rent and utilities.

IHFA's four branch offices, located in Coeur d'Alene, Lewiston, Twin Falls, and Idaho Falls, administer the Section 8 program and conduct landlord workshops regularly.
