IHFA to administer $518,733 in Emergency Shelter Grants to assist homeless

Idaho Housing and Finance Association announced it has been awarded $518,733 in Emergency Shelter Grant (ESG) funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. IHFA has administered the ESG funds to 20 Idaho organizations that serve individuals and families experiencing homelessness.

"IHFA is pleased to have been the administrator of ESG funds for homeless prevention and assistance in the state for more than a decade, and we are honored to continue this important work," said Julie Williams, vice president of Community Housing Services.

ESG provides funding for the operation and/or minor rehabilitation of emergency shelter facilities, supportive services to the homeless, and homeless prevention activities such as rental or utility assistance to help keep people in their homes. The funds awarded will support these activities in the coming year. ESG funds are administered by IHFA based on qualifications determined through the application process.

The 20 projects include:

  • St. Vincent de Paul
  • Coeur d'Alene
    $41,404
    St. Vincent de Paul has a shelter for men and a shelter for women and children. The funding will be used for staff salaries, client services, shelter food, and operations and maintenance.

  • Alternatives to Violence of the Palouse
  • Pullman-Moscow
    $27,000
    Alternatives to Violence is a 24-hour provider of emergency, secure, confidential shelter. The funding will be used for shelter operations and maintenance, shelter staff salaries, client services, food, and supplies for client education and employment.

  • YWCA of Lewiston
  • Lewiston
    $31,410
    YWCA of Lewiston provides a shelter for homeless families with children and for domestic violence victims and their children. The funding will be used for shelter operations and maintenance, staff wages, and direct client services.

  • Anchor House
  • Boise
    $20,500
    Anchor House works with individuals recovering from addictive disorders. The funding will be used for staff salaries, client services, and operations and maintenance.

  • The Jesse Tree of Idaho
  • Boise
    $15,332
    Jesse Tree assists individuals who are in permanent housing and are at risk of becoming homeless. The funding will be used for homeless prevention services.

  • S.A.F.E. Center (operated by Salvation Army)
  • Boise
    $29,900
    SAFE Center provides a shelter for homeless women and homeless women with children. The funding will be used for shelter food, staff salaries, client services, and shelter operations and maintenance.

  • Community Family Shelter (operated by Salvation Army)
  • Nampa
    $29,870
    Community Family Shelter provides shelter for families and single women. The funding will be used for shelter operations and maintenance, client services, and staff salaries.

  • Valley Crisis Center
  • Nampa
    $41,831
    Valley Crisis Center provides a 24-hour domestic violence shelter and homeless prevention resources. The funding will be used for shelter operations and maintenance, shelter food, client services, and staff salaries.

  • The Advocates
  • Hailey

    The Advocates is a domestic violence and sexual assault shelter and provider of homeless prevention services. The funding will be used for operations and maintenance of the facility and staff wages.

  • Crisis Center of Magic Valley
  • Twin Falls

    Crisis Center of Magic Valley shelters victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. The funding will be used for shelter operations and maintenance, on-site food and supplies, childcare vouchers, and client services.

  • South Central Community Action Partnership
  • Twin Falls

    South Central Community Action Partnership provides homeless prevention services. The funding will be used for those who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

  • Bannock Youth Foundation
  • Pocatello

    Bannock Youth Foundation is a shelter for runaways and homeless youth. The funding will be used for shelter operations and maintenance, staff salary, and food.

  • Aid For Friends
  • Pocatello

    Aid For Friends provides safe and sanitary emergency shelter to individuals and families as they confront homelessness. The funding will be used for shelter operations and maintenance, and staff wages.

  • South Eastern Idaho Community Action Agency
  • Pocatello

    South Eastern Idaho Community Action Agency provides homeless prevention services. The funding will be used for those who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

  • City of Refuge
  • Idaho Falls

    City of Refuge is a men's homeless shelter. The funding will be used for shelter operations and maintenance, staff salaries, food for the shelter, and client services.

  • C.L.U.B. Inc.
  • Idaho Falls
    $34,390
    C.L.U.B. offers emergency shelter, transitional housing and permanent housing for homeless individuals, targeting those with mental illness and substance abuse issues. The funding will be used for shelter operations and maintenance, staff salaries, shelter food, and homeless prevention services.

  • Bonner County Homeless Task Force
  • Sandpoint

    The Bonner County Homeless Task Force administers two transitional housing programs for families and single women, as well as a safe house for victims of domestic violence. The funding will be used to assist those who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

  • Family Assistance in Transitional Housing, F.A.I.T.H.
  • Idaho Falls

    Faith provides temporary housing and serves as a safety net for families who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. The funding will be used to provide supportive services to clients.

  • Mahoney Family Safety Center (Operated by Lemhi County Crisis Intervention)
  • Salmon

    The Mahoney Family Safety Center provides emergency shelter for victims of abuse, women in crisis, women in growth and transition, and children at risk. Funding will be used for shelter operations and maintenance and staff salaries.

  • Sanctuary (Operated by the Interfaith Alliance of Idaho)
  • Boise
    $26,240
    The Sanctuary will provide overnight shelter for men, women, and families experiencing homelessness. Funding will be used for staff salaries, as well as operations and maintenance of the shelter.
