IHFA administers $525,763 in Emergency Shelter Grants to assist homeless
Idaho Housing and Finance Association has received $525,763 in Emergency Shelter Grants (ESG) from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) that will provide homeless persons with basic shelter and essential supportive services. IHFA has administered the ESG funds to 19 Idaho organizations that serve individuals and families experiencing homelessness.
The Emergency Shelter Grants program can assist with the rehabilitation or remodeling of a building used as a new shelter; operations and maintenance of the facility; essential supportive services; homeless prevention assistance to persons at imminent risk of losing their own housing; and grant administration. The funds awarded will support these activities over the next 18 months. ESG funds are administered by IHFA based on qualifications determined through the application process.
“IHFA is pleased to administer funding that will help organizations around the state reach out to families experiencing financial hardship,” said Julie Williams, senior vice president.
Grantees, except for state governments, must match ESG grant funds with their own locally generated amounts. This local funding can come from the grantee or recipient agency or organization; other federal, state and local grants; and from "in-kind" contributions such as supplies and equipment, new staff services, and volunteer time.
IHFA will use $26,288 to cover costs associated with administering the ESG funds. The 19 projects receiving grants include:
